Bang, bang.
The Young Guns 2009 shortlist and winners list was made available today, and low and behold, I made the cut this year. Tres exciting. A big congrats to all who finaled and to those that picked up gold, silver or bronze.  You can view the work, and the lists here: http://www.ygaward.com/#/advertising

The Stella ritual.
Check out this cool OOH board for Stella. Done by Mother in NYC. Apparently they’ve commissioned a group of New York painters to create an outdoor spectacle of the brands pouring ritual. Painters will hand-paint a 20X50 foot poster on side of a building downtown, creating a stop-frame animation of the pour. Check it out here…. ...

I love Christmas movies.
And my two favourites are: Love Actually (no, not because of Hugh Grant), and Home Alone. Again, not because of Macauly Culkin, but had you asked me 10 years ago and I would have had a different answer. That’s my way of admitting I had a childhood crush on the kid.  Anyways. Back to my point. I wait all year for these movies to show. I know, I know. I can rent them any day of the year,...

The King of AKQA
I had the pleasure of meeting Rei Inamoto (king of AKQA) at the Boards Summit in NYC in October. Beyond that, I was fortunate enough to score the last seat to the Hot Topics Roundtable lunch and luckily landed at his table. I can’t say enough about this man. Smart. Extremely nice. Friendly. Passionate. And down right represents what I think a great CD is.  I even emailed with him upon...

My goodness Guinness.
Imagine service like this. That’d be worth paying the extra $ for. Entertaining work from David Lubars and the BDDO NY team.  http://creativity-online.com/work/guinness-slide/18019

The power of coffee.
New work out of Sweden for Nescafe. Whatcha think? I’m still not sure.  http://www.boardsmag.com/screeningroom/tvfilm/8422

Heading to war? Read this.
Well not just this post, but rather the book I’m dishing about. It’s called “War in the Boardroom”, by Al & Laura Ries and it’s a great insight into the left and right brain thinking and why the two don’t always see eye to eye. It provides helpful tips on ways you can help marry the management and marketing sides of the table. Common sense, bottom line...

I'm the shit.
Well, I’m not. At least not right now. But Kayne is. And apparently he’s not afraid to tell it like it is.  Check out his new song here. A good pump up for the gym and times when you’re doubting yourself.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJCr6fGy3kw

I heart NYC
Like many, I’m a lover of the big apple. I’ve been more times that one can count and in that time I’ve covered all the tourist must sees.  More recently I’ve mapped out all the cool restaurants I want to try. On a recent long weekend getaway, I experienced the ultimate food orgasm. Also known as the best pizza - ever. Yeah, we’ve all said this at one point in time...

I want....
…this gorgeous KATE SPADE purse.  Perhaps instead of counting sheep, I’ll count these tonight. Sweet dreams.

Who you "gunning" for?
A little behind (by a week or so) on posting this - but congrats all around. Like a kid a Christmas, I look forward to the Gunn Report every year. It’s inspiring. It’s motivating. And it’s a great way to catch up on all the work you ‘missed’ out on earlier in the year. Check out the 2009 winners here.  ...

Topics for the water cooler.
Who came first. The copywriter, or the art director? And, go.

Say it with type.
This proves how important design is. What a great example to share in a client presentation. Ok, maybe not. But, I just wanted to share. With the right design, even something bad can look good. Or great. Je t’aime this typography work.

I'm a sucker for motivational quotes.
As you embrace a new week, here’s a few words to think about. “There is no limit to what you can imagine. And with commitment, with effort, what you can imagine can become. Put your mind to work for you. Believe that you can do it. The world will tell you that you can’t. Yet, in your belief you’ll find the strength, you’ll find the ability, to do it anyway.”...

Keep walking.
Not the newest spot, but great writing none the less. Another “wish I’d done that” for the reel. **NOTE** surprisingly, this was all shot in one take. Keep walking, indeed Johnnie Walker. And keep making web spots like this. Good work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnSIp76CvUI

Hello lover.
Ok, I have to confess. I can’t fully take credit for the title of this entry. That goes to SJP a la Sex and the City season 4 (I think). However, I figured a fun phrase such as this was worthy of use more than once.  I don’t usually consider  myself a fashionista. Far from it actually. I mean, sure I take pride in what I look like every day, but I don’t go coo-coo for cocoa...

Axed in Buenos Aires
I’ve always been a fan of the Axe work, especially the Axe Effect campaign. Scrolling through SHOTS online, I just came across this new spot. It’s out of Buenos Aires. Perhaps far fetched, but it made me smile. Directed by Paul Hunter from Pretty Bird. I really like the music. What’ch you think? http://www.shots.net/video_detail_css.asp?id=44519&pnmode=rh_HPC#anch_top

I love stationary.
Dear, Reader I swear I’m part designer because I’m a fool for beautiful paper. Textures. Colours. Designs. Sizes. I love it all. You could literally drop me at a stationary store, run errands and then come back for me a few hours later and I’d still be drooling.  On a recent trip to NYC I stumbled upon one of my favourite stores there. Papyrus. There’s a location in...

Who's in the dog house?
Check out this work by Saatchi NY and JC Penny. A web film that apparently broke record views for the launch its first episode. Fun stuff. I like where interactive/web work is going….Anyone know who the production company is involved with this? http://creativity-online.com/work/jc-penney-return-to-the-doghouse/18013

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?
If I were part of the “Real Housewives”, collection I think I’d be a “Real Housewife of Paris”.  Considering my weekly diet consists of cheese, bread, olives and lots of wine, it’s perfect really.  Plus, I love men with accents. Southern first, but Parisan a close second. Am I fluent in French? Hardly. But does it really matter? So, I might not be able to...

I love going to the movies.
What I don’t like is all the people I have to deal with. We’ve all encountered some form of annoying person dans le movie theatre. You know, the one person that ruins your Friday night outing. For some, it’s the “can you please move down a seat, even though I”m twenty minutes late for the movie”, person. For others, it’s the, “I forgot to turn my...

No polar bears were harmed in the making of this...
Today’s spot is brought to you by Mother, London. What’s your take on it? Some I’ve talked to say it’s a bit extreme. I’m ok with it. Sometimes, certain subjects call for “extreme”. You be the judge whether this was one of them.   http://www.boardsmag.com/screeningroom/tvfilm/8404

My grandma rocks!
I should preface by stating that all of my grandparents rocked. Extremely caring, giving, selfless individuals that lived for the happiness of their families. I take great pride in saying they were my family and I hope I do a good job of honouring their memory. From four grandparents, I still have the pleasure of having the physical presence of one in my life, my baba. That’s Ukranian for...

Shout out to Swipe.
Alright. So I enjoy books. I love reading. And my favourite bookstore is a little one nestled just off Spadina at Richmond. SWIPE. It offers a great range on advertising and design books. For me, it’s kinda like Shoppers Drug Mart. I can’t ever go in there and buy just one thing. Sometimes I go in just to look around, but mostly it’s strategic. I like to pin point my next...

The "pick-me-up" I needed.
It’s Friday. That means the end of a long week. Came across this picture and it was just the pick me up I needed. It’s a good reminder that even when things seem down, keep the faith. Happy weekend all.

You know what the Canadian Ad industry is lacking?
More work like this. Good stuff Droga5. 10 points for originality. 10 points for creativity. And, you guessed it, 10 points for getting the message across. You can add this spot to my, “wish I’d done that” reel. Happy cleaning.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_g2vTFert4

Oh, it's awesome alright.
The World is Just Awesome.  Amen.  I couldn’t have said it better myself. Here’s a great spot out of 72andSunny. It’s the follow up to another AWESOME spot. And it’s one of the many spots I’ve come across that I wish was on my reel. Might not be insanely creative. But it evokes emotion. Makes me think. And I love when advertising does that. Enjoy. And please...

Ain't too proud to beg.
Ok. Maybe I am. Just a little. But I’ll tell ya what this unemployed copywriter ain’t too proud to do. Work at Starbucks, yo. That’s right. Sometimes a gals gotta do what a gals gotta do. And when she can’t do that. She’s gotta work at Starbucks. Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s a great place that employs lovely people. And I’m the one who applied....

How to be a gentleman. Scenario 1.
Ok, guys. Here’s a little tip. If you’re hitting on a girl at a bar, and she’s only out with one other friend that night, be classy and offer to buy BOTH girls a drink.  I know, I know, you’re not made of money. Right. But, remember, while it might cost more at the time, in the long run, this gesture works 100% in your favour. You see, the friend of the girl you like is...

**I heart things**
Have you ever sat down and just made a list of all the things you love? I have. You should try it. Here’s a peek at mine: - running in the rain - myself - reading the paper at a coffee shop on saturday morning - succeeding - making people happy - laughing so hard you can barley breath - butterflies in your stomach when you’re around someone you really like - when a size...

Where have all the manners gone?
Lately I’ve noticed a few things. No one says please anymore.  And it’s as if the words, ‘thank-you’, are foreign in this English speaking town. Seriously. Jokes aside, have you looked around lately? I mean really taken a step back and assessed the manners situation going on in this city? It’s horrendous. Disgraceful. And It disappoints me to no end. I’m proud...

I've arrived.
Ok. I’m here.  So what’s all this fuss about blogging anyways? Anyone? I get that it’s a way to share things with others, and stay in tune with what’s going on in the World around us, but isn’t that TMZ and US weekly are for? Relax, I kid. Sorta. I felt like I’d been under a rock when I shared with a fellow co-worker last week that I didn’t blog....
