P*O*P goes the book
In an attempt to promote a scholarship it funds for Vancouver Langara College, Rethink produced this awesome little video. It just goes to show what happens when you push an idea. Nicely done. http://www.stimulantonline.ca/stimulus/1489/pushing_ideas.html

Clothing needed
DDB folows up “Swear Jar” with this spot about clothing donations all in the name of a Bud Light. I’m still unsure if it ‘actually’ ran, but made me smile none the less. http://creativity-online.com/work/bud-light-clothing-drive/18612

Grand Prix Repeat?
Fred & Farid’s (of Paris) campaign for Wrangler “We are animals” is back. if I’m correct, last year it picked up at Cannes quite a bit. Well, it’s back. And for 2010 it comes in red. What’chu think? http://creativity-online.com/work/wrangler-we-are-animals-red/18539

Shoot for the moon.
A collection of little reminders that I stumbled upon tonight while cleaning out my email: - Take risks.  - Believe in yourself. Or no one else will  - Love your family & friends. Work superhard. Live your passion - Never stop trying, believing - Just go.  - Success is achieved by those who try and keep trying - Your greatest glory comes not in never falling, but in rising every time...

A classy farewell.
So after a few weeks of bashing NBC, and all things related, and endless speculation on what antics he’d pull for his last show, Conan went out in utter style - if you ask me. What class. What composure. What grace. He closed the show with Neil Young, Will Ferrell and Tom Hanks. Wow. I learned a few things about Conan tonight. Most specifically, that I like him more than I thought I did....

I can't sleep.
And its no wonder. Besides being under the weather, there’s so many important things going on in the world tonight. For instance, the Hope for Haiti relief efforts, encouraged by George Clooney. The night proved moving and genuine. My wish is that those involved and the evenings efforts raised amounts that were beyond expected. To those that gave their voice, time and support - good on ya....

Talk about legs.
An amazing campaign I truly wish I could say “I did”.  Amazing work. Such a simple idea. With legs that can walk for miles. I didn’t realize it had been running for as long as it has.  Thanks to adfreak for sharing the link. http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/get-a-mac-the-complete-campaign.html

For real?
I thought this spot was hilarious when I first saw it. It for shizzle would never run in Canada, but kudos to the Brits for selling something like this through. You either love it - or you hate it. A nice execution of both sides of the coin. *warning: avoid watching while eating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoRcU0Ul7tU

Lets get radical.
If you haven’t read Sally Hogshead “Radical Careering. 100 truths to jump-start your job, career and your life”, what are you waiting for? A perfect motivator, this book functions just like any human ad mentor would. And you can read it very much like a “Chose your own Adventure” book  simply by opening it up and turning to any random page. And better yet,...

Calling all foodies.
Can you call yourself a foodie simply because you like to eat? I sure as hell hope so. Because for the last year or so, my favourite weekend pastime has quickly evolved from loud nights of pub hopping to low key, quiet nights dinning out. And overall I’d say I’m a pretty easy person to dine with. I’m open to trying most things - at least once, because you can’t knock it...

It's time to be thankful.
Have you seen the front page of the Star today? Or the Globe? What about the Post? If you have, you may have been moved to tears as I was this morning. If you’re not from Toronto, I’m sure the images adorning your local newspapers this morning were also of the despair and heartache that Haiti’s suffering right now. That’s why today, I hope you all take a moment to be...

Amen.
Today we take time to celebrate these wonderful words - brought to us by MAC computers. To the crazy ones: Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of the rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote...

The B-list.
Did you know that the Oxford Dictionary officially named unfriend the “it” word of the year? It seems that everywhere I look people are taking about divorcing and kicking social networking friends to the curb. How about you? When it comes to facebook, have you been battling with thoughts of deleting some? Even if you haven’t perhaps this may make you think. Here’s...

Tattoos in all the wrong places.
I cringed when I saw this. Could you imagine? What if big, black plastic frames go out of style. And beyond that, what if one day he actually needs to wear real, seeing glasses. A perfect example of why you should always think ahead. http://creativity-online.com/work/rayban-tattoo/18424

I think this is not only a cute spot for Flax Instant Lottery, but its a fresh way at the lottery category in general. I would melt (no pun intended) if someone did this to me. Plus, it’s got a sweet tune. http://creativity-online.com/work/flax-instant-lottery-frost/18432

Brilliant.
The happiness machine. Brought to you by Coca-cola. It started as a single random vending machine that was placed on a college campus, but I think the idea is big enough to create vending machines like this all over the world. http://creativity-online.com/work/cocacola-happiness-machine/18425

Don't buy a coffee today.
Instead, take the $5 you would have spent and donate it to Unicef. Get the money to those in Haiti that need it most right now. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti, those around the World that have friends and family residing there, and all the relief teams that have ventured there to help. I admire you.  Thanks for doing your part. And mine.

Up for a game of "Nicky, Nicky, Nine Door?"
In a meeting today, a planner shared his favourite “waste-time” website. It’s called “Realestalker” and might I just say, it’s fabulous. Lets face it. We’re a culture obsessed with the lives of the rich and famous. Whether we all freely admit it (as this planner did) or not. Besides wanting access to what they do, where they party, who they know, what...

Yummy in the tummy.
Winterlicious is just around the corner. Which is awesome because if you have the winter blues, for three weeks straight you can eat your way through the crappy weather.  Have you pegged the hot spots you want to eat at yet? I’m currently in the process of doing so. You see, every year I say I’m going to take advantage of the cool event and yet, never do. It seems the lure of Kraft...

Ping, when others pong.
Have you heard of this bar in NYC called “SPIN”? It’s a ping pong bar. Yep. You heard right. And apparently it’s backed by Susan Saradon herself. I wonder if she referee’s games from time to time? There’s 13,000 square feet of table tennis playing area, and it only costs between $10 and $20 a play/half hour. Wow! I’m still stuck on the fact that this is...

The Pursuit of Happiness.
A blog I just started reading, authored by a fellow creative at CP&B, listed what they interpreted as their 10 steps to happiness.  I’ve ben thinking about this a lot lately, as numerous other lists have popped up on facebook status’s and twitter feeds. It seems that everywhere I look these days, people are on a path to discover happiness. Here’s some steps to happiness,...

Got the blues?
With vacation still just winding down for some, a few others of us feel the need for another one already. It’s the syndrome called S.A.D to blame. A seasonal disorder that affects people and their happiness during the blah months. Also known as winter. Apparently a psychologist developed a mathematical formula to calculate the most depressing day of the year, and, apparently, it always...

Have a look at the most liked and the most recalled spots of 2009, according to AdAge.  Bud takes the cake in both categories (kudos), with Starburst, Doritos and Etrade all following in rank.  For me, the Bud spots are definitely up there. Muchos Gracias
I often like to take time to reflect on my career and thank those responsible for both helping me get where I am today, and those helping to get where I want to go.  Sure, at the end of the day it can be argued that only you are responsible for the work you do. And I agree with that. But along the way, there’s always people who go that extra step to show you that they really believe in...

He's smart like that.
Stumbled upon this quote from Erik Vervroegen and couldn’t help but share. It’s part of the introduction he wrote to the Epica 2006 Award Annual (Book 20).  He simply reeks of passion. And I love it.  ” Successful advertising can’t exist without a big idea. And for a big idea to emerge, two elements need to be united. One, the creative teams. The talented folks given...

G'eesh. Only in Canada.
So, the word on the street is that two Canadian transit authorities have pulled Virgin Mobile ads after complaints from consumers that they were too racy. WTF? Too racy? Maybe for the 1950’s. It’s been noted that more than 130,000 advertising professionals have lost their job in this great recession of the 2000’s. A little thought goes a long way.
I logged in to facebook tonight expecting to see a fury of status updates that reflected on the holiday season behind us, and the new work week ahead of us. Instead, I stumbled upon something way better. A friend recently blogged about her jump in to 2010. I found it so refreshing and such an inspirational read that I not only had to paraphrase, but I’m revising my resolutions as we speak....
