I had a funny conversation with a co-worker today.

She was beside herself to learn that I (a natural blonde) had chosen to be brunette. Upon her discovery I was kindly bombarded with questions like “why would I chose to be brunette, when so many brunettes were either dyeing their hair, or dieing to be able to dye their hair, blonde?”

I have many reasons (both personally and professionally) for going brunette, a few of which I shared with her. Her reactions were hilarious. In fact, she got me to thinking that these reasons might be fun to share in the form of a collection of short stories. And so the book title ” TEAM BRUNETTE or TEAM BLONDE” was born. Stay tuned for more on this fun initiative.

I’ve been thinking about the concept of self-doubt quite a bit recently. It’s funny how often we come across people in our lives that force us to look within and question our knowledge, our confidence, our beliefs and ourselves. Like most other industries, advertising has the ability to take you from Cloud 9 to the gutter in 2.5 seconds.

That’s why I always aim to be the motivational colleague. The one that strives to encourage fellow creative’s – both ones I work with and not. Courage, confidence and strength don’t come freely and effortlessly. We have to work on all of these things.

So, whether it be a boss, an old colleague with whom an ignited competitive spirit was shared, an ex or even a close friend, never, ever let anyone make you doubt yourself. Trust that you are great, that you have the power to be better and forge onwards with the belief that you can do anything, be anything and see anything you want.
