Something to protest

image

About a year ago I watched the movie “Taken”. It’s basic plot involves a former spy who relies in his old skills to save his estranged daughter who’s been forced into the sex slave trade.

And since watching this movie I’ve become an avid protestor against the sex trade. Shameful to admit, but until watching it I’d really never been aware that this industry existed so heavily across the world.

If you haven’t seen the movie, watch it.

And if you haven’t seen this documentary – watch it.

It’s called “Hope for the Sold”, and it’s only 45 minutes. I guarantee, once you watch it, you’ll not only be shocked, but you’ll want to take action and do something too.

Works of Art. Literally.

The artist is Atisha Paulson and you should check out the work at:

It’s great. So great in fact, that it inspired my first art purchase. The first photo.

The other is a snapshot of the second piece I intend to buy.

Can improv really help you at work and in the boardroom?

I’ve always thought so. That’s why I signed up with Second City two years ago. Not only wanted to learn how to ‘be funny’, but wanted to learn to be quicker on my feet, and how to learn to listen and build on conversations. Here’s a great article by Jeff Greenspan as to why improv can be a fun way to spend an hour on the weekend and such a crucial tool for you in the boardroom.

p.s if you can’t get the link to work – search it on Creativity Online yourself.

The details are in the petals

A few weeks back I read a post from Alex Bogusky’s blog titled “Stop and Smell the Flowers”, and I’m glad I did.

What a nice take on what we all so often forget to do – actually STOP and enjoy the world around us.

It’s nice to see this sentiment spiral down from an ad guru himself. Or should I say retired ad guru? None the less, in an industry that so proudly boasts about hours logged at the office and prides itself on the number of awards lined on the shelf, it’s a fantastic reminder that there’s more to life, than advertising.

Yep, that’s right. I said it.

And I also stopped to take in the flowers today. Did you?
